I tend to equate Artifacts to transformations but ones you have to tell the game not to overwrite.A fair number of transformations fall into that category when first picked up, actually. You only end up with obviously not-human body parts if you choose to advance it or the character gets maimed, in which case the part shows up instead of a hook hand/peg leg.
