Downhill skis are an advantage in the deeper snow. The wider shovel on the tip of the dh ski and the wider waist helps float the sled really well. OK, it’s time for a Smitty sled. I walk out a lot and am tired of the huffing and puffing I end up doing when there is snow on the ice. I have a flip over, and because I am lazy, I don’t want to have to take it off the sled and put it back on every time I want to move. The width between the front and back poles should be a total of 1 to 2 ft less than the length or your sled. My sled would fall between the wood when it moved. Now I use the rope clips and the rope from my sled to attach the sled to the front of the skis.

I feel your pain, I jsut built my version of a smitty last night! pair of skiis, 8 1/2" flanges 4 10"x1/2" pipe wood screws and 1-1x3x10 cut in half. Straps hook to the pipe, I still need to att eh tow rope to the pipes but thats a quick fix.
