Highly reccomend the Fidelio X3 (I hated the X2Hr) the 9600 does look like a shitty "upgrade" though. There is hardly a difference between it and the 9500. Unlike the X3 which is a totally different headphone altogether from the X2H2, which i didn't like. I've tried it with mine using their thick velour pads. Regarding my experience, I think the thicker pads made the mids a bit more distant and the bass louder. I've also noticed it added a bit more isolation compared to its thinner original. Regarding its form, the thicker pads definitely helped with its clamping and it's more comfortable for me ...Compare SHP9500 and SHP9600 on rtings website. The difference is in the 1-3 kHz.
