The standard barrel seems to have quite a bit more dps. What it doesn't show is that Charging barrel gives you more range and accuracy, but I find that they are rarely needed. Either one can be set up with a prime receiver (or whatever they call it for this weapon) to use "ultracite fusion cores", for a bit more damage and bonus damage against scorched. Gatlings lasers do the job especially if modded but you will miss out on xp when loads of other creatures spawn at the same timr doing scorched earth as they take a while to spin up and reload. Meanwhile all the .50 cals are doing the buisiness mopping up.
