The International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) is a permanent commission of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). The IUGS was founded in Paris on 10 March 1961 and is a member of the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). The organisational bodies referred to in the statutes are defined as follows:
