The 351 Windsor was in a league of its own because of its heightened deck block, larger connecting rods and much “beefier” main bearing caps. It also had a very distinct firing order that was nothing similar to the standard Ford V8 firing order of 15426378.Firing order. There is another firing order 15426378 which was for the earlier 221-302 small blocks, 351-400s all the 332-428 and all 429-460s. It is possible to swap the camshaft in the 351 from a earlier 221-302 which would change the 351’s order to the earlier one. I ran into this situation many years ago with a 302 that had been rebuilt.

After 1977, 302 heads and 351w heads are virtually the same except for the size of the head bolt holes. 351c/351m/400 have 8 bolts holding the valve cover on.
