Sleeping isn't the same kind of action as reading a book. Just like chopping a tree, watering plants, building anything or moving inventory items, reading a book is an interruptable action. Its just going to take 'you' longer because you cannot fast forward time. Even on MP, everybody on line must sleep, or it does not start the fast forward of time.
