Some of this is copy/paste from what I had posted. If building one with the standard 4.000" bore 5.7L block, you end up with 377 cu in (6.2L ). If you go with a .030'' over-bore 5.7L block, you end up with 383 cu in (6.3L ). There's 33 more cu in of displacement with this engine due to the .270" longer crankshaft stroke.A 408 is meant for towing/hauling applications because it has a "long" stroke which performs better at lower torque ratings (towing, long haul applications). The best choices for big-inch stroker engines are W9, Indy, and Brodix heads. The valve spacing in the W9 cylinder heads allows the use of large valves. This head has 2.150" intake and 1.600" exhaust valve. Put whatever heads on you wanna use. Call a cam grinder and tell him you want something snappy and smooth. He'll ask for your setup, you tell him, he'll recommend a cam. Put that cam in and install it correctly, have the ignition timing and curve right and it will feel like 500 HP.Building 383 stroker will also give you a larger bore dimension, so the stroke ratio increased 1.15:1 to 1.07:1, so the torque and horsepower will enhance. It is not that difficult to increase the stroke; all you have to do is install some equipment types into the blocks, such as a 3.750-inch stroke that will be replaced by a 400 small-block.
